U13's end season in style

U13's triumph at International midi rugby champions in Chichester against some great opposition
The U13's ended their season with some silverware after beating three teams at the International midi Rugby series in Chichester.
Harpenden, Old Whitgiftians (OW) and the national team from Bermuda were the opposition.
After watching the opening game between Harpenden and OW the boys knew it would be tough to take home the trophy, so they would need to get to another level if they wanted to win the tournament.
Game 1 vs Bermuda
Notoriously slow starters at festivals and taking on the nation of Bermuda would be a tough first test. However, straight from the kick off we returned the kick via a few quick passes and scored. The Bermudans were caught on a slow start and the boys turned on the style and almost instantly playing champagne rugby. Louis Armstrong-Brown floating a 10 yard inside pass from behind his back as early as the 3rd minute - it was dealt with in court later!!
The Bermudans had some big runners and scored a couple of tries as they started to wake up but the lads were playing solidly as a team and saw the game out eventually winning 6-2
Game 2 vs Harpenden
After what seemed an age (an hour and a half at leas) we were on to the next match against a big and well drilled Harpenden team. The lads were rightly a little bit nervous, however a reminder of how well they play when they play as a team gave them the belief and encouragement to go out there and do what they do best!! A tense start and both teams lining up well against each other, our defensive line is strong, compact and quick and Harpenden cant get out of their half. The pressure builds and eventually we get the ball over for a score and the nerves are settled. Pressure keeps building and we are too strong for them and we get another try 2-0 to Wymondham. Harpenden to their credit are defending well and trying to run back at us but we are not missing a tackle - no way through! Harpenden kick to relieve the pressure but they find our full back and he runs it back dodging tacklers and getting over the try line.
The action has come thick and fast and 25 minutes has passed in what seems like 5 or 10 minutes, the lads have raised the bar again, everyone agrees, coaches, parents, players.....that is the best Vipers performance ever!
Game 3 vs Old Witgiftians
One more victory and the trophy would be ours. Cool, calm heads and discipline will be key!
Once again we start quickly, and we are in front to settle the nerves. That is then all the boys need to relax and get into the style of rugby they like playing. The game is very competitive but our runners and lines and speed at which we are doing it is too much for OW's. The boys know this is the last game of the day and are enjoying it spreading the ball from one side to the other and when we don't have possession, defending as if they only had a slender lead, giving the opposition no room.
The game finished 7-1 to Wymondham but the OW's have been competitive and the score is maybe a bit harsh on their effort and industry
For Wymondham - that is it 3 games, 3 wins - and a trophy to boot!! Well played the lads superb rugby in both defence and attack and deserving to end the season on such a high!
With the formalities of the tournament over, day 2 would be a more relaxed affair. Unfortunately, Harpenden did not make it back for day 2 so between the OW's and Bermuda - we agreed to mix the teams and make three scratch sides. The spirit of rugby very much alive and all players enjoyed the three games with some exceptional try scoring and overall play.
A great way to end the weekend of rugby and our season!
