Wymondham's 2nd XV narrow defeat to Diss 2nd XV
A solid performance and great improvements show promise for future games.
The 2 teams lined up on a cold Autumn day both knowing that this was an important game. Wymondham kicked off to start the match and Diss 2nd VX looked to put the pressure on early breaking through on a couple of occasions, a strong scramble defense from Ben Edwards and Alex Wigney stopped Diss taking an early lead. Wymondham dominated in the scrums winning the ball against the head on multipme occasions and as the half continued, they started to settle. 15 mins in Diss capitalised on a break through the middle picking up their first try quickly followed by a second. Wymondham didn’t panic, they stayed calm and knew that we were still in the game. With a solid base coming from the forwards, the backs almost created a try of their own shortly before half time however Diss held on and got the turnover.
Half time Diss 14 - 0 Wymondham
The second half began well for Wymondham as they continued to win scrums and started turning over lineouts too. This led to a fantastic clearance kick from Tom Potkins which was duly chased down by winger Ben Edwards to put their back line under pressure, wymondham managed to get the turnover and Tom Potkins managed to find the gap to score our first try converted by Darren Wilson Diss 14 - 07 Wymondham
Wymondham carried on applying the pressure and managed to all work harder defensively, after some hard work from the forwards, the backs were able to find space with a couple of moves which saw Darren Wilson get through to score and convert to level the game. Diss 14 - 14 - Wymondham. Sensing the win was in their sights, Wymondham looked to capitalise however a clearance kick, chased up by the backs was unfortunately turned over and diss returned up the field to score their 3rd try of the game under the posts and converted. Diss 21 - 14 Wymondham
Wymondham continued to push for the try to level the game however Diss held on and forced a few errors to keep themselves in front. With 9 mins to go both sides received a yellow card to their wingers and despite some late efforts from the red and black, they were unable to exploit the space and Diss held on for the win.
